PARENT TESTIMONIAL - Alexis, NY

On the Ball is a group that I find to be absolutely necessary for all youth and collegiate athletes.

As a coach for over 20 years, as well as being a parent to a daughter playing high school sports, I found that the safe space that this environment creates for them allows the individual athlete to dive deeper into topics that might be uncomfortable for them, on and off the athletic field.

To be able to comfortably discuss these topics and to realize that they share the same feelings, concerns, and thoughts as other athletes do, facilitates powerful potential for both mental and physical growth and wellbeing.

ATHLETE TESTIMONIAL - Age 15

“Since participating in the On the Ball Group Program I am more aware of my struggles, feelings and unhealthy habits on and off the court.  I am now able to act on changing the negative patterns (i.e. shutting down or giving up) and keep pushing forward.  Instead of thinking about my struggles with my athletic performance I am now able to acknowledge and bring them to light while playing.

Having an opportunity to spend time with my teammates in this group setting allowed me to have more intel in what they are going through and thinking while playing.  We do spend a lot of time together on the court, but this group gave me an opportunity to go deeper with teammates, understanding their feelings and emotions outside of basketball.  Also having multiple facilitators brought different perspectives and questions.  There were serious topics and conversations, but we also had an opportunity to have lighthearted and fun conversations around what we were navigating.  It also helps that one of the facilitators, Kat actively still plays a sport too.

I would recommend this group program to all student athletes so they can bring light to their struggles and get to the next step by solving them.  This group not only helps with mental health with performance, but we also were able to discuss other challenges which helped me to navigate other areas of my life too.

Overall, I loved the experience!  It was great to get different perspectives from trained professionals, other than family and friends.”
